In the vibrant landscape of Indian textiles, few crafts carry the depth, patience, and cultural significance of Bandhani. For centuries, artisans have transformed fabric into works of art through thousands of carefully tied dots, creating patterns that tell stories of heritage, identity, and craftsmanship.
Today, one designer is bringing those stories to a new generation through a brand that celebrates the very essence of this tradition.
Welcome to SIFAR NAMA – The Story of Dots.
Founded by Mohammed Rahid Daudbhai Khatri, a Bandhani artisan-designer from Gandhidham, Kutch, Gujarat, SIFAR NAMA is more than a fashion label—it is a tribute to the artisans whose skilled hands keep one of India's most treasured textile traditions alive.
The Meaning Behind the Name
The name itself reveals the philosophy of the brand.
"SIFAR" means zero, represented through the tiny Bandhani dots that form the foundation of every design. These dots are not merely decorative elements; they symbolize the craftsmanship, dedication, and livelihood of the artisans who painstakingly create them by hand.
"NAMA" means a story.
Together, SIFAR NAMA becomes “The Story of Dots”—a narrative woven through fabric, tradition, and human artistry.
The concept is also deeply symbolic. Just as zero increases the value of any number it accompanies, SIFAR NAMA seeks to add value to the lives of those who wear its creations while elevating the recognition of artisan craftsmanship.
An Unconventional Journey
Rahid Khatri's path into fashion was far from conventional.
After completing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2017, he joined his family's Bandhani business, which has been serving the craft since 1985. Immersed in the world of textiles and garment construction, he gained practical knowledge of both craftsmanship and entrepreneurship.
Yet he envisioned something more—a way to innovate while preserving tradition.
This vision led him to Somaiya Kala Vidya, an institution dedicated exclusively to design education for artisans. There, he explored contemporary design thinking while staying deeply connected to his cultural roots.
His creativity and dedication earned him the prestigious title of Most Innovative Artisan of the Year 2023, a recognition that marked the beginning of a new chapter in his journey.
It was during this period that SIFAR NAMA was born.
Where Heritage Meets Contemporary Design
At a time when fast fashion dominates global markets, SIFAR NAMA stands as a reminder of the value of slow, meaningful craftsmanship.
Every piece created under the label carries the spirit of Kutch's rich textile heritage while embracing modern silhouettes, contemporary aesthetics, and evolving consumer tastes.
The result is a collection that feels both timeless and relevant—rooted in tradition yet designed for today's world.
A Vision Beyond Fashion
For Rahid Khatri, Bandhani is not merely a craft; it is a language of storytelling.
Through SIFAR NAMA, he aims to create awareness about artisan-led design, preserve traditional knowledge, and ensure that future generations continue to appreciate the cultural significance of handcrafted textiles.
His work demonstrates that innovation does not require abandoning heritage. Instead, true innovation often emerges from understanding tradition deeply enough to reinterpret it for the future.
Coming to Loop Fashion Week 2026
This vision will take center stage at Loop Fashion Week 2026, where SIFAR NAMA will present its distinctive interpretation of Bandhani craftsmanship on the runway.
Scheduled for 19–21 September 2026 in New Delhi, Loop Fashion Week celebrates sustainable fashion, wearable art, handcraft traditions, and creative storytelling. SIFAR NAMA's showcase perfectly reflects this spirit by transforming traditional Bandhani into a contemporary fashion narrative.

The Future is Handcrafted
In a world increasingly driven by automation and mass production, SIFAR NAMA reminds us that some of the most valuable creations still begin with human hands.
Every dot tied by an artisan carries patience.
Every pattern carries tradition.
Every garment carries a story.
And through SIFAR NAMA, those stories are ready to be shared with the world.
